Iconography
Iconography overview
Canadian Tire uses iconography across all channels to communicate with our customers. Icons are small, image only illustrations meant to act as a visual shorthand to convey a feature, benefit, or function with limited use of descriptive labels. Icons can also be used in-line with supporting text. They should be used to aid rapid transfer of information to support customer interactions.
It is important that we choose the appropriate icon category below that best suits your given application, as outlined in Iconography categories. Then, be sure to follow the foundational style guidelines, as found in Iconography foundations.
Iconography categories
Icons can typically fit within one of the following 4 categories. All icons follow the same foundational rules, but each category of icons may have its own set of specifications to optimize their appearance based on their use.
Customer Experience (CX) Icons
Customer Experience Icons are Omni-Channel and are used to communicate programs and innovative/unique services and offerings that customers can experience at Canadian Tire, both in store and digitally. These icons tend to be more conceptual in nature and may require greater support from Process Icons in order to communicate the steps required in the experience.

Process Icons
Process Icons appear in both print and digital channels and are used to quickly communicate the steps a customer must take in order to complete the process of a program/call to action. These icons are most commonly featured as level 2 icons in relation to Customer Experience Icons.

Product Feature Icons
Product Feature Icons appear most often within the Print channel but offer an opportunity to be adapted and aligned across all channels. These Icons are used to communicate information about a single product or product category. Product Feature Icons can indicate a feature and/or benefit, with the support of copy in the form of a label. They can also be used in legends and/or educational guides when multiple items in proximity to each other are from the same category.

UI Icons
UI Icons appear across our CT Digital platform and are commonly used in Navigation, Toggles, Social Media Links, Reviews, Notifications, In Line Messaging/Assistive Text and more. The areas of focus that may differ from other icon categories include colour, label and shape container size.
